Energy Sector Operational Dashboards: Field to Boardroom

The Challenge

An energy company operating 40+ field sites across southeastern Europe relied on paper-based inspection forms, manual data entry, and weekly reporting cycles. Field technicians carried clipboards; operations managers waited days for aggregated reports. Equipment failures were detected reactively, after they caused downtime.

Our Approach

We built a full-stack solution with three components: a mobile-first Progressive Web App for field technicians, a real-time operations dashboard for site managers, and an analytics platform for executive reporting.

Field App: Built with Angular and designed for intermittent connectivity, the PWA allowed technicians to complete inspections on tablets with offline support. Data synced automatically when connectivity resumed. GPS tagging and photo capture replaced handwritten notes.

Operations Dashboard: A React-based dashboard received real-time data from IoT sensors and field inspections via Kafka streams. Threshold-based alerts notified operators of anomalies before they escalated. Equipment health scores were computed using rolling averages of sensor readings.

Analytics Platform: Historical data was aggregated in PostgreSQL with materialized views optimized for time-series queries. Power BI reports provided executives with fleet-wide visibility into maintenance costs, uptime percentages, and compliance metrics.

Results

• Paper elimination across all 40+ sites within 6 months
• Inspection completion rate improved from 72% to 98%

The platform now handles 50,000+ sensor readings per hour and 200+ field inspections daily, with 99.7% uptime over the past 12 months.
